The Jam Making Kits include everything to get someone started on their preserving journey. The kits come in 2 different versions, Standard and Deluxe.
The Standard kit includes a Stainless Steel Maslin 9 Litre Pan, Stainless Steel Jam Funnel, Glass Jam Thermometer, Favourite Country Preserves book, a Pack of 200 1lb Wax Discs, Pack of 30 Monochrome jar labels plus a Pack of 12x 12oz Jam Jars with gold lids and even a 40cm Wooden Spoon. It’s also possible to select a different colour of jar lid. Alternative colours are silver, black and white. All you need to do when ordering is complete the notes section of the order form with your preferred choice.
The Deluxe kit costs a bit more but still offers great value. This kit includes Stainless Steel Maslin 9 Litre Pan, a Non Stick Jam Funnel, Stainless Steel Jam Thermometer, the River Cottage Handbook on Preserving, a Pack of 200 1lb wax discs, a Pack of 18 Words of Art Labels, a Pack of 12 12oz Hexagonal Jam Jars, with red gingham lids and a 40cm Wooden Spoon. First Preserves: Marmalades, Jams and Chutneys by Vivian Lloyd, a great book for beginners. Step by step instructions are given for recipes. Another great title if you’re just starting out is The Basic Basics Jams, Preserves and Chutneys by Marguerite Patten, who needs no introduction. This book covers 200 of the world’s favourite preserving recipes.
Let’s Preserve it by Beryl Wood is also a firm customer favourite. The book contains almost 600 recipes for preserving fruit and vegetables across the whole spectrum of Jellies, jams, chutneys, pickles, fruit butters and cheeses. For those that want to push themselves the book also includes details of how to enter competitions and what to expect from judging.
Preserves: River Cottage Handbook No.2 by Pam Corbin is also very popular. This is a good book for anyone interested in the history and science of preserving and the basic processes involved. The book also includes 75 recipes. The River Cottage handbooks are highly regarded and this one is no exception.
