Small bottles with pumps
Posted by The Wares Team on 5th Jun 2020
From the title of today’s blog post, you may be forgiven for wondering
what on earth we’re choosing to write about! Read on to discover our
range of small glass bottles with pump dispensers, and find out how they
can help your family’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
We’ve all heard the government’s advice about the importance of regular,
and very thorough hand-washing to help prevent the spread of
Coronavirus. There can be few people who haven’t now installed a supply
of hand gel in their car, as well as gloves, paper towels and possibly
even a mask, in order to carry out the weekly shop in safety.
Hand-washing at home is just as important and whether you recite ‘Happy Birthday’
whilst you are washing your hands, or you simply take a bit more care
and time over it without reciting anything, we are all changing our
habits and trying to play our part in the battle against this virus.
As part of this fight, more and more people are looking at their
household toiletries and asking themselves a few questions. Is the
liquid soap we use strong enough to kill the virus? Does it have to have
a certain alcohol content to be effective? How can I maintain rigorous
hygiene without compromising my desire to be as eco-friendly as
possible? How can I keep costs as low as possible during the pandemic,
to make my furlough salary, SEIS grant or universal credit payments go
as far as possible? All of these questions are important, and hopefully,
we can offer some useful thoughts on the subject in this post.
Keeping costs down
It goes without saying that many people are feeling squeezed financially
at the moment. Even if you haven’t been furloughed or made redundant or
had your self-employment income dry up overnight, there are still
additional costs to bear during lockdown, whether from having the kids
at home all day to increased energy usage because you’ve been stuck in
the house 24 hours a day.
Savings are inevitably on everyone’s mind. One way to save a little is
to buy liquid soap and other toiletries in bulk and then to decant them
into small glass bottles with pumps, ready to use in the bathroom,
cloakroom or kitchen. You can buy most toiletries in bulk in any
zero-waste store, and these have the added advantage of usually being
eco-friendly brands that don’t harm the environment. Using small glass
bottles instead of ugly plastic dispensers also looks a whole lot nicer,
making your home just that little bit more stylish.
Whilst you are switching to these bottles with pump dispensers, why not
consider having a bottle in the porch or hallway, filled with hand
sanitiser so that whenever anyone comes into the house, they can
immediately sanitise their hands before making their way to the bathroom
to wash properly. That way, there is no need to touch internal door
handles before fully washing your hands. Another thing to consider is
filling some more small glass bottles with hand cream too, since all
this extra hand-washing is taking its toll on our hands, leaving them
dried out and prone to cracking and soreness.
Making your own creams and toiletries
With extended lockdown challenging our patience, more and more people
are looking for new hobbies or pastimes, or for creative outlets around
the home. One idea is to make some of your own toiletries or cleansers.
With just a few basic ingredients that can easily be ordered online from
specialist suppliers, you can create your own unique blends of
handwash, bath creams and hand cream, to name just a few.
This is a great way to engage the kids as they will really enjoy
blending their own unique scents and producing something that you can
actually use. It’s also a brilliant way to make the switch to a more
sustainable approach to toiletries and cosmetics, so it brings with it
the possibility of finding a positive in an otherwise fairly depressing
situation.
