Let's Prepare for Halloween 2024

Let's take a look at some of the creative ways you can use our huge range of glass jars and bottles for Halloween cooking and crafts.

1. Glowing Nightlight Jam Jars

Gather your glass jars and plenty of craft supplies such as coloured tissue and glass paint, and decorate your jars with Halloween-themed colours. You can then use black card to cut out spooky face shapes and glue them to the jar. Sharpie-style pens also work very well for drawing illustrations on the glass surface. If you are particularly creative, you can also use black card to make complex paper-cut scenes which will then glow up in relief when the light source is added to the jar.

Add a battery-operated tealight in each so that the artwork glows! If you have Halloween stickers with themes such as black spider webs, you can use these to decorate the jars so that the flickering light within creates scary shadows on the wall. Or make your own spider webs with black wool!

2. Spooky Party Supplies Glass Jars

Again, use your jam jars to create themed holders for orange paper straws and black recycled plastic tableware. Glue googly eyes all across the jam jar or add decorative spiders, then tie bright orange ribbons around the rim for a pretty themed storage jar for your Halloween party.

3. Sweet Confectionery Jars

Larger style glass jars also work well for displaying sweets and you can decorate them with orange, black and silver ribbons, and any Halloween craft toppers you have to hand, and then fill them with ghastly sweets such as green ghost jellies or foil-wrapped eyes!

4. Halloween Table Displays

Use spray paint to cover Mason glass jars with orange, yellow, silver or green paints - choose a couple of colours to create an on-trend ombre effect. Add the lids and punch holes for stems. You can then use these jars to arrange seasonal green foliage, which you can spray silver or black, or decorate further with spray 'webs'!

5. Halloween Hand Soap

Make guests jump with a Halloween hand soap! Use a glass Mason jar and add the hand soap dispenser version of the lid. Fill the glass jar with a clear hand soap and then add a handful of plastic bloodshot eyes (you can buy these online or from party supply shops.) The eyes will float in the soap and give everyone a fright!

6. Day of The Dead Mexican Glass Jars

In Mexico, the Day of The Dead celebrates ancestors with parties and beautiful rituals. The artwork associated with this festival is now seen widely in the UK and it's great fun to adopt for your own crafty creations. Keep your glass jars plain or spray them with white paint, before using glass-suitable pens to create your own intricate Day of the Dead masks on the surface. Add a string of battery-operated tealights and these will become a centrepiece in their own right!

7. Halloween Punch

This delicious punch is easy to make and fun to serve with wiggly gummy worms to decorate! You can add vodka to make it suitable for adult parties! Serve this lovely colourful punch in decorated glass Mason jars with lids and a straw, or add a row of glass bottles to the party table, ready for pouring! 8. Halloween cupcakes

These cute little frosted cupcakes are shaped as ghosts and they're easy enough for kids to make. You could also bake a cake recipe into glass jars for a mug cake and then add your spooky themed frosting and sprinkles on top - great for warming up again as a treat after a cold night's trick or treating! 9. Halloween candles

If you're feeling particularly handy, you could also use miniature glass jars to make and pour your own candles. Simply buy soy wax discs and tapers, melt the wax according to the instructions, and add orange food colouring and edible glitter. You could fragrance them with the aromas of the season, such as cinnamon and candied apples. These make great little gifts too!
