Get Your Kitchen Organised With Sensible Storage
Posted by The Wares Team on 1st Feb 2020
Already, and all too quickly, January has flown by and for many people, those well-intentioned New Year’s Resolutions are fast becoming a distant memory. What started out as an ambitious plan to get fit, be more mindful or simply to declutter and get organised at home can so easily get lost as we struggle to keep pace with a hectic lifestyle and too many demands on our time.
If this sounds like you, and you really do want to organise your life and your
home, it’s time to make things happen. Instead of trying to change everything
all at once, and failing because the task is just too big, try focusing on just
one area of your life, or just one room in your home and work from there.
In today’s blog post, we look at how to get organised in your kitchen, since
this is perhaps the most important room in the house and a room where you and
your family spend the most time. If you can crack the kitchen, the rest of the
house should fall into place very quickly!
Declutter And Deep Clean
If you are going to organise your kitchen effectively, you need to start by
taking a cold, hard look at what’s there to start with. Are your cupboards
looking a little grimy at the back? Are your shelves stacked with things you
never use, or foodstuffs you had forgotten you even had? It’s worth getting
everything out of all of your cupboards and going through it all ruthlessly. If
you find food items that are nearing their best before dates, prioritise using
these up, to avoid food waste.
Simply make a meal plan for the coming week that incorporates anything that you
need to finish off and you’ll be amazed at how much you will be able to
declutter your store cupboards in no time at all. You might even find that this
exercise encourages you to try out some new recipes at the same time!
Of course, if you find items that are years past their best before date, then
there isn’t really an alternative but to throw them away. If you do have the
ditch any out of date food, take a good look at it as it goes in the bin, and
make a promise to yourself not to waste food in this way in future!
So, you’ve emptied your cupboards, given the shelves a thorough clean and
checked all the dates on your food items. How do you put it all back in such a
way that it stays tidy permanently? A good selection of storage jars should get
you organised in a jiffy! By switching to a neat row of storage jars to hold
your rice, pasta, flour, cereals, dried fruit and so on, you’ll avoid the
frustration and untidiness that comes from storing those items in the plastic
wrappers that they are sold in.
We’ve all suffered at some time or another with split packaging that spills
pasta shells, grains of rice and all manner of other foodstuffs all over your
cupboards or larder, and we’ve all no doubt found sugar that has gone lumpy
because it hasn’t been sealed in an airtight container, or dried fruit that
looks less than appetising because the air has got to it and made it go all
limp and horrible.
Avoid all of these horrors by storing everything possible in some sensible
storage jars. Kilner jars are ideal for this purpose, as they come in a wide
range of shapes and sizes and they look good too. Why not declutter your work
surfaces at the same time, and display a selection of Kilner jars in a corner
or on a shelf to contain biscuits, sweets for the kids, spaghetti or whatever
it is that makes your own kitchen look permanently untidy?
The Wares Range Of Storage Jars
At Wares, we have a huge range of storage jars to choose from, including Kilner
jars in every conceivable shape and size. If you have a young family and you’re
concerned about glass jars getting broken, we also stock a range of plastic
storage jars that might be more suitable for you and your family. They are just
as practical and stylish and, again, they come in a huge range of shapes and
sizes to suit every storage requirement.
Utensils And Equipment
Moving on from storage of your foodstuffs, it’s time to think about organising
the rest of your kitchen. If your saucepan lids and baking equipment is always
a jumble of untidiness, consider investing in some racks to keep everything in
place. If you have any specialist equipment that you only use once in a blue
moon, move it to the top shelf of your highest cupboards to free up space to
organise the more frequently used items in the lower cupboards.
Think logically, and you will have things organised in no time at all - and
you’ll have storage systems in place to prevent a slide back into
disorganisation!
